Club América Move On To Semifinals With Win Over Revolution

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Club América booked their place in the semifinals of the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League with a 3-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Thursday night at PayPal Park.

Larin Brace Leads Águilas

Cyle Larin scored twice in the second half to give América the lead and ultimately the win, after the two teams were tied 1-1 at the break. Brian Rodríguez opened the scoring for América in the 17th minute, but Arnór Traustason quickly leveled for the Revolution just two minutes later.

América will now face CF Monterrey in the semifinals, while the Philadelphia Union will take on the Seattle Sounders in the other semifinal.

Rodríguez Gets Águilas Off to Fast Start

América started the match brightly and took the lead midway through the first half. Rodríguez played a one-two with Salvador Reyes on the left flank before cutting inside and firing a low shot into the bottom corner.

The Revolution responded well to going behind, however, and Traustason equalized just two minutes later. Gustavo Bou played a cross from the right flank and Traustason was there to head home from close range.

Larin Shines in Second Half

The second half was a much more even affair, but it was América who took the lead through Larin in the 65th minute. Diego Valdés played a perfect cross from the right flank and Larin was there to head home from close range.

Larin then added his second goal of the game in the 81st minute. The Canadian forward latched onto a through ball from Reyes and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.

The Revolution pushed for a late goal, but América held on to secure their place in the semifinals.
