Titans Secure Rising Star Cam Ward, Colorado Dominates 2025 NFL Draft

The 2025 NFL Draft will forever be remembered as the draft where the University of Colorado made history. Not only did the Buffaloes produce the number one overall pick, but they also had four players selected in the first round, tying a record set by Miami (FL) in 2004.

Quarterback Cam Ward was the toast of the draft after a record-setting season in Boulder. Ward, the son of former NFL quarterback Kerry Collins, threw for 4,942 yards and 47 touchdowns, leading the Buffaloes to an undefeated season and a College Football Playoff National Championship.

Ward was widely considered the best quarterback prospect since Trevor Lawrence, and the Tennessee Titans traded up to the number one spot to select him. The Titans, who had been searching for a franchise quarterback since Marcus Mariota left in 2020, were thrilled to land Ward.

Ward has a prototypical NFL frame at 6'3", 225 pounds. He has a strong arm and is very accurate. He is also a good runner, which gives him an added dimension to his game.

However, Ward is still relatively inexperienced. He only started one season at Colorado, and he played in a spread offense that is very different from what he will see in the NFL.

The Titans have a lot of talent on offense, including running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver A.J. Brown. Ward will have plenty of weapons to work with, and he should be able to put up big numbers in Tennessee.

However, the Titans also have a lot of questions on defense. If they can't improve their defense, they will not be able to compete for a Super Bowl, even with Ward at quarterback.

In addition to Ward, Colorado had four other players selected in the first round of the draft:

Player Position Team Round Pick
Marvin Jones Jr. Wide Receiver Jacksonville Jaguars 1 20
Mekhi Blackmon Offensive Tackle Pittsburgh Steelers 1 22
Josh Chandler-Semedo Linebacker Washington Commanders 1 28
Alex Niblett Safety Minnesota Vikings 1 31

This is the most first-round picks that Colorado has ever had in a single draft. It is a testament to the strength of the Buffaloes' program and the talent of their players.

The 2025 NFL Draft was a historic one for the University of Colorado. Cam Ward and the other Buffaloes who were drafted have a chance to make a big impact on the NFL. It will be exciting to see how their careers unfold.
