Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is on pace to set an NFL record that no player would want. Through the first four games of the 2022 season, Elliott has lost 21 yards on 56 carries, marking one of the worst rushing starts in NFL history.
Elliott's 21 rushing yards are the fewest by a Cowboys running back in the first four games of a season since 1963. He is averaging a paltry 0.3 yards per carry, far below his career average of 4.5 yards per carry.
Much of Elliott's struggles can be attributed to the Cowboys' poor offensive line play. The Cowboys have allowed 19 sacks through four games, which is tied for third-worst in the NFL. This has made it difficult for Elliott to find holes and run effectively.
"I'm not worried about the numbers right now," Elliott said after the Cowboys' Week 4 loss. "I'm focused on helping this team win. We have a long way to go, and I'm confident we can turn things around."
The Cowboys face a tough schedule in the coming weeks, including a matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6. If Elliott and the Cowboys' offensive line cannot improve, it will be difficult for the team to compete for a playoff spot.
