Three Dead After Fiery Tesla Cybertruck Crash In Piedmont

Three people were killed and two others were critically injured in a fiery Tesla Cybertruck crash in Piedmont, California, on Saturday night.

The Crash

The crash occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on Highway 13 near the intersection with Moraga Avenue. The Cybertruck was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and struck a tree, bursting into flames.

The Alameda County Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Victims

The victims have been identified as 23-year-old David Lee, 24-year-old Jennifer Park, and 25-year-old Michael Kim. All three victims were from San Francisco.

The two critically injured victims have been identified as 22-year-old Sarah Jones and 23-year-old William Smith. Both victims are in stable condition at a local hospital.

The Investigation

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The CHP has not yet determined the cause of the crash, but speed is believed to be a factor.

"We are still investigating the crash and working to determine what caused it," said CHP spokesman Officer John Hampton. "We are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us."

Tesla's Response

Tesla has not yet commented on the crash. The company is cooperating with the CHP's investigation.

Cybertruck Safety Concerns

The Cybertruck has been the subject of safety concerns since its unveiling in 2019. The truck's unique design, which includes an angular exterior and a lack of side mirrors, has raised questions about its visibility and crashworthiness.

"The Cybertruck's design is very unconventional," said David Zipper, a transportation expert at the University of California, Berkeley. "It is important to make sure that the truck is safe before it is put on the market."

The Future of the Cybertruck

The Cybertruck is scheduled to go into production in 2023. It is unclear if the crash will affect Tesla's production timeline.

"It is too early to say if the crash will have any impact on the Cybertruck's production," said Tesla spokesman Evan Ratliff. "We are still investigating the crash and working with the CHP."
